Gold Star Wives

Gold Star Wives was first incorporated in the State of New York on December 15, 1945. On December 4, 1980 The Gold Star Wives were granted a Federal Charter by Congress and recognized as a unique organization capable of providing a service not available from any other organization.

The Gold Star Wives is a non-profit membership organization. To be eligible for membership your spouse must have died while on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces or died from a service-related disability. There are currently 10,000 members nationwide, with over 60 active chapters. The Gold Star Wives have an enviable history. Shortly after President Franklin Roosevelt died in April of 1945 his widow Eleanor Roosevelt became eligible for membership in Gold Star Wives. As the widow of the Commander-in-Chief she became a member of the Gold Star Wives Board of Directors and a signer of the original Articles of Incorporation.

 


The Purposes Of Gold Star Wives

1. To assist in upholding the constitution and laws of the United States of America and to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to community, state and nation.
2. To honor the memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of our country.
3. To safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy for which members of our armed services fought and died.
4. To provide the benefits of a happy, healthful and wholesome life to minor children of persons who died in the service of our country.
5. To promote activities and interest designed to foster among its members the proper mental attitude to face the future with courage. 6. To aid when necessary the widows and children of persons who died in the service of our country.
7. To do any and all things necessary and incidental to carry out the general purposes and objects of this organization.
