ON SEPT 21, 1812 COL. WILLIAM JENNINGS, WITH HIS REGIMENT OF KENTUCKY RIFLEMEN, WAS ORDERED BY GEN. W.H. HARRISON TO ESTABLISH A FORT MIDWAY BETWEEN FORT BARBEE AND DEFIANCE. THE FORT WAS NAMED AFTER JENNINGS.
