Types of War Memorials
To help you identify the different types of war memorials that may exist in your local community please see the list below and click on for an example. Not all of these may be in your community but the treasure hunt for them is the excitement and joy of doing this.
Any of these types of war memorials can be in a public place such as a park, plaza or square. They can be on private property such as a church, school or veterans post. They can also be in Veterans Cemeteries or on Military Bases. Please do not trespass on private property to take a picture. It’s always best to ask permission or take the picture if you can from a public space.
Memorial Highway markers or signs are not war memorials they are the name of the Highway. Most grave markers are not war memorials unless they are inscribed with the history of a famous military person, military unit, ship, battle or war.
